The Gl and GFL series were used back in the day in the small engine market segment on marine engines, railway speeders, and other applications to name a few. They were unusual in that they were gearless and had a semi circular collector spool ring and one or two brushholders. They likely ran at crankshaft speed on 2 cycle engines and camshaft speed on 4 cycle engines. Here is some factory information to keep yours well.
