Splitdorf Wiring Diagrams 1914

Here are some 1914 wiring diagrams for the earlier Splitdorf low tension magnetos using a separate high tension coil. These early magnetos produce AC to run once the engine is started after starting on dry cell current. The magneto in the battery mode serves as a distributor. The switch on the dash or coil box changes from battery power to magneto power. Always check the condenser in these old sustems. it is usually buried in a glob of wax or tar inside the coil box and is nearly always bad. When replacing the condenser, if you cannot remove it physically safely, clip one lead to get it out of the circuit when installing the new capacitor or it will continue to lead the circuit causing poor performance. Most of these devices are around .25MFD.
